Growing demand for ferry services to Khasab

Day by day the number of passengers traveling by the ferries of the  National Ferries Company from Port Sultan Qaboos to the port of Khasab in Musandam Governorate is increasing; where the number of passengers during the  Eid al-Adha trips reached (1166) passengers include trips to the Wilayat of Khasab, in addition to the cruise trips on the coasts of Muscat Governorate, with an increase of almost 60% compared to the number of passengers during the last Eid al-Fitr holiday, where the total number of passengers was (725). It is very optimistic that the proportion of Omanis during these trips amounted to almost (60%) of the total number of passengers, and the National Ferries Company operated additional trips during the holidays in response to the growing demand from all categories of travelers, including citizens, residents and tourists. It is worth mentioning that the National Ferries Company achieved a record in the last Eid al-Fitr holiday, where the occupancy rate on some trips from Khasab to Muscat reached 100%, which gave a strong indication of growing confidence in the company's services.

The National Ferries Company contributes - through its unique services - in supporting the maritime transport between the coastal cities in Oman, however, its future plan is to cover more than 12 ports in the country, in addition to international ports in some neighboring countries. The support for domestic tourism is part of the basic objectives of the company, which started to bear fruit gradually by the increasing number of tourists heading to Khasab, and hence to all other parts of Musandam.

Since the start of the maritime transport service between Port Sultan Qaboos and the port of Khasab, the Wilayat of Khasab has become a pilgrimage site for many Omani and expatriate families as well as tourists. Mr.Yousuf Al Balushi, Passenger Terminal & Booking Office Coordinator at the company, confirmed that the number of travelers to Khasab would have been more but the limited accommodation capacity in the Wilayat resulted in the cancellation of not less than approximately 35% of all bookings.

In the meantime Mrs. Fadhila Al Khalasi, Marketing Manager in the company stated that the company really values its customers confidence in choosing the National Ferries Company as one of the important tourist activities during the Eid holidays and this was expressed by many travelers who said that sailing on board (Shinas and Hormuz), the world’s fastest ferries is in itself an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. She added that the company's operations since its successful launch on 23/7/2008 has marked diversity in the programs offered to its customers and the sailing in nature to the highest standards of security and safety has become one of the basic platforms for work and operation’s in the company. At the end she said that the movement of passengers and cars will see a remarkable growth in the near future, especially after the start – by God’s will – of the launch of automobiles transport service between Port Sultan Qaboos and Port Khasab.
